PAOLA is a research initiative that investigates whistleblowing in academia, aiming to improve institutional responses to academic misconduct. The project collects and analyzes reports of wrongdoing, supports whistleblowers, and promotes best practices to ensure transparency and accountability in higher education.
Understanding academic whistleblowing – Mapping challenges and trends across Europe through secondary data and whistleblowing reports
Promoting best practices: Promote and distribute best practices for handling whistleblowing cases, ensuring that academic institutions have the tools and knowledge to create ethical, transparent environments.
Supporting those who speak up – Providing guidance and resources for whistleblowers.
Policy recommendations and toolkits – Helping institutions develop better reporting and protection mechanisms, sharing best practices and communication toolkit, e-learning opportunities.
Whistleblowers play a crucial role in maintaining the credibility of academic research and institutions. PAOLA works to ensure they are protected, heard, and empowered to speak up.
SciLink plays a key role in the PAOLA project by leading dissemination efforts and ensuring its impact reaches academic institutions and policymakers. The team is responsible for developing the framework (website) for the Observatory, creating a communication toolkit to support whistleblowers and institutions, and designing an e-learning platform to raise awareness and educate academic communities on whistleblowing. Through these efforts, SciLink helps transform research into actionable change, strengthening integrity in academia.
Provide early academics and researchers with flexible pathways for their professional development with coaching and courses taught by experienced and active researchers across Europe.
