What is OSCAR? 

Online, open learning recommendations and mentoring towards Sustainable research CAReers is a concept serving the professional development of senior and junior researchers, master students and PhD candidates and doctoral training participants by using AI based learning recommendations and online mentoring.

The OSCAR project will develop, deploy, and validate a personalized training and online mentoring service for researchers to support their career management and mental health awareness skills development.

On OSCAR pilot day you will have the opportunity to try an Al based learning application, eDoer and participate at a mentoring session in career management or mental health. 

Participating Requirements

  • Please note! Registration will be validated only by completing this Initial Survey of OSCAR Online Learning: Initial Survey OSCAR 
  • Please note! Taking part in mentoring session is not automatic, it depends on what questions and problems are raised via the online learning platform
  • In online learning session can participate:
    • Anyone who has an active research job (full/part-time, project based, etc.) 
    • Junior and Senior Researchers, PhD Candidates, Academics
    • Anywhere from Europe

Preliminary Program*

10:00 – 10:30: Introduction of the day

10:30 – 12:00: Individual learning with eDoer, questions must be submitted for mentoring

13:00 – 14:30: First four parallel mentoring sessions (5 persons each session)

15:00 – 16:30: Second four parallel mentoring sessions (5 persons each session)

Ethical Considerations

The primary purpose of the OSCAR Pilot day is to test and introduce the eDoer application. Incorporating the comments and criticisms of the participants into the development phases.

We process all data anonymously for research purposes. We will communicate the results of the Pilot day to the participants. The participation is voluntary and confidential. 

About the mentors:

Francisco Valente Gonçalves, PhD is a director at RUMO, during his practice he gained experience in various topics such as relationships, depression, trauma, anxiety, grief and personal development. Early in his career, he worked at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences where he developed skills in the area of personality assessment and analysis of credibility. He later won a Marie Curie Fellowship and completed a PhD in the UK (University of Leicester) in the field of cognitive processes and motivation. Between 2019 and 2022, Francisco was a Manager at Big4, where he led several integrity and ethics projects and developed tools and assessments for ethics and personality in a wide variety of companies from different sectors. Throughout his career, he won a number of international awards and recognitions, such as 2021 Best Practices in Psychology | Honorable Mention with RUMO project by OPP (2021), Top 3 European Young Researchers of 2020 (EuroScience), Social Impact Award – Marie Curie Alumni Association (2019), MSCA Bridging Career Paths – European Commission (2018), and Graduate Dean Award – University of Leicester (2017). 

Inês Gaspar is a certified Psychologist and a member of the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses (OPP), the Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen (NIP) and the American Psychological Association (APA). She has a Master’s Degree in Psychology, in Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions, and several post-graduate courses (more than 500 hours) in Cognitive Behavioral Therapies and other topics such as mindfulness and compassion.Since 2017, Inês has been working in private practice in Amsterdam, both through online and face-to-face sessions. She works with adults (mostly expats and students) from different nationalities and backgrounds, helping them deal with problems of anxiety, lack of motivation, depression, relationships difficulties, communication, difficulties in integrating into a new country and culture, traumas, among others. In 2018, Inês joined the RUMO’s team of Psychologists, where she has been working as a Clinical Psychologist. Additionally, she has also developed and facilitated mindfulness courses for business clients and participated in research projects.

Joe Delaney is founder & managing director of Career & Life Planning. He has developed his own unique Coaching and Change Management Methodology called the “5 Steps to Success” which is used by the company help our clients achieve a more Enjoyable & Successful balance in both their personal and professional lives. Originally from Ireland, Joe lived in the US for 10 years. He has over 20 years’ experience and worked previously in Boston with American Express, Thomson Financial, Harvard University and a private jet leasing business before joining a Specialist Recruitment Company. When he returned to Ireland, he spent 10 years with BDO (Professional Services Firm) as Director of Recruitment Services and worked with many US Multinationals in Ireland recruiting professional and senior management roles.
